The Marvel Cinematic Universe movies keep on shattering box office records left, right and centre. It’s the largest movie franchise in history by far and, with many more movies yet to be released, it doesn’t show signs of stopping any time soon. Here are some rather interesting facts you never knew about the incredibly successful superhero franchise.
1- While Groot simply says the same sentence (‘I am Groot’) over and over again, voice actor Vin Diesel received special scripts where Groot’s lines were translated into English, helping the actor to determine how each individual ‘I am Groot’ should sound

2. Captain Marvel nearly had a cameo appearance at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron, though it was ultimately scrapped

3. Marvel didn’t initially want Robert Downey Jr. to take on the role of Iron Man – he’s since appeared in nine movies and is scheduled to appear in a tenth, 2019’s as-yet-untitled Avengers movie

4. In line with the huge success of the movies he featured in, Robert Downey Jr.’s pay went from $500,000 to $50,000,000 in just four years

5. Why is there no solo Hulk movie on the horizon? Because the rights to distribute such a film are still held by Universal Studios

6. The motion-capture process used to create the Hulk in The Avengers was so refined that the Hulk actually has the exact same fingerprints as actor Mark Ruffalo

7. The franchise’s 19 movies have collectively grossed $16.6 billion on a combined budget of $3.7 billion

8. Tom Holland found out he was going to be playing Spider-Man on Instagram. He was scrolling through his feed when he came across the public announcement of who would be playing the character

9. Spider-Man’s role in Captain America: Civil War was written before the character was legally allowed to appear in the movie, due to time constraints

10. Chris Evans turned down the role of Captain America no fewer than three times before being convinced to sign up; he was worried a multi-movie contract would weigh him down

11. Three of the movies, Thor, The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man 2, all occur within the same week
